Con la abundancia de restaurantes de comida rápida, es más fácil para padres latinos de escasos recursos que viven en sitios como Highland Park, Watts y el Este de Los Ángeles, comprar comida rápida a un precio muy barato para alimentar a sus hijos en vez de encontrar un buen supermercado cercano y cocinar una comida en casa.

The CSUN 6, as the five students and professor are known, have received much support from fellow students, professors, and community organizations such as Todos Somos Arizona (We Are All Arizona). Supporters could be found sitting in the courtroom and rallying outside the courthouse at the group’s court date Friday Jan. 21. Among the supporters sitting in the courtroom was CSUN professor Rudy Acuña. “I’m here because of the injustice,” Acuña said outside the courtroom. “This is racist. Every person arrested is a person of color.”

Los Angeles Major Antonio Villaragosa and the City Council plan to cut senior food programs from the state budget. Seniors living in Pisgah Villages’ affordable housing want to express to the mayor how useful and necessary food programs are to them. Two teens assist them in making their voices heard. Together they work to achieve their goal.

The Dream Continues shows aspects of migrant workers living the “American Dream.” The film was inspired by my father who came to the United States 10 years ago and worked as a day laborer to give his family a better opportunity at life—with education as the key factor for us to succeed. The film inter-cuts my father’s story with the stories of the day laborers who work at the Home Depot that we drive past every day.

“I was with my (first) baby, I had left the hospital three days prior and I was breast feeding,” remembers María while crying. “The father of my children had a knife and he put it on my neck and when he grabbed my arm, I couldn’t move anywhere.”
