Luis Álvarez, de 28 años de edad, decidío regresar a México en el 2009 después de haber obtenido una licenciatura en Ingenieria Eléctrica de la Universidad del Estado de California, Los Ángeles. Ahora, Luis puede compartir una historia de triunfo en la cual menciona que “El único obstáculo que te detiene de lograr tus sueños eres tú mismo”.

De origen salvadoreño, Pedro, de 26 años de edad, obtuvo su licenciatura de biología en la Universidad del Estado de California, Northridge (CSUN), y después decidió viajar al país natal de su madre, México, al ver que en Estados Unidos sería muy difícil asistir a la escuela de odontología. El pasado mes de mayo, Pedro salió voluntariamente del Estados Unidos para poder lograr su objetivo principal. Después de investigar el proceso para ingresar a una universidad mexicana, en el otoño del 2011 comenzó su primer semestre en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Hoy en día, Pedro siente haber logrado parte de su sueño y darse cuenta que “Los sueños se logran en cualquier país”.

As earth day was arriving, San Francisco was the starting point for this years Green Festival at the Concourse Exhibition Center through April 9 – 10.

Experts from the Latino community say that Latinos will be seeing many changes in their populace due to the 2010 Census data. El Nuevo Sol, CSUN’s Spanish-Language journalism department’s multimedia project, hosted a panel discussion regarding Census data and the impact on the Latino community.
This multimedia series results from a partnership between LA Beez, an online collaboration of ethnic media organizations featuring hyperlocal news content covering the metropolitan Los Angeles area, and El Nuevo Sol, a bilingual (Spanish-English) multimedia website of the interdisciplinary program in Spanish-language journalism at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Students in courses taught by journalism professors Jéssica Retis and José Luis Benavides worked with LA Beez editors Ronald Ellerbe and Julian Do on hyperlocal stories about Van Nuys, one of the most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods in Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley, and about youth culture and the impact of the economic crisis on young people.

Mientras se incrementaba la tensión durante una de las varias largas noches en la oficina, los editores de esta edición tomamos un momento para reflexionar y vimos las páginas preliminares en nuestras manos. La foto ilustra una madre soltera al lado de sus dos hijos que tienen parálisis cerebral. Su rostro demuestra el amor por sus pequeños, y a la vez, cansancio. Fue entonces que aclaramos nuestras mentes estresadas y vimos la gran pantalla: comprendimos que estábamos trabajando en algo más grande que nosotros.
